We cannot say enough great things about our experience working with Doug Stein. As our general contractor, Doug oversaw the design and build of a new two-car garage attached to our home. We are very pleased with our new garage. It is a beautiful and functional addition to our home. From the start of the project, it was clear that we had selected the right man for the job. Doug was extremely conscientious. He arrived early every day and was always on-sight to oversee the work. He explained every step of the process to us as the construction was taking place. He made sure that no corners were cut. Doug was very respectful of our neighbors. He reached out to them to let them know what to expect during construction and he offered his phone number in case they had questions. The subcontractors that Doug hired were fantastic – always on time, respectful and very hard working. The quality of the workmanship was excellent. We felt that we got an honest and fair proposal from Doug at the start of our project. And our project came in on budget – a rarity in our experience! We highly recommend Doug Stein of Wexford Homes!
We had the pleasure of having our screened-in porch built by Wexford Homes LLC/Doug Stein. Doug was one of two builders referred by our architect. From the moment that we met Doug, we knew that he was a true professional. Thanks to Doug, the construction process was incredibly smooth. Doug took care of all of the details, interfacing seamlessly with our architect. Doug provided help and support in planning out the final details of the project, including identifying finishes and construction products. Doug is extremely knowledgeable and used creative solutions to address any challenges that arose during the process. The final product is better than the initial design due to his efforts in this regard. Doug’s subcontractors are first rate and professional. They all showed up on the designated day and on time. They worked efficiently and productively. They left the site safe and clean at the end of each day. I attribute much of this to Doug’s oversight. We were so impressed at the time he personally spent at the project site, working collaboratively with his subs. Doug, in particular, was more like a friend and we could call or email him at virtually any time to seek clarifications or advice. Each time we reached out to him he responded immediately and with sound solutions to our concerns. Thanks to Wexford Homes, we now have a beautiful porch – it was built to our exact specifications at a reasonable price and in a timely fashion. We have no hesitation in recommending Wexford/Doug to anyone interested in renovating, building a new home or a significant addition to an existing home.
We used Wexford Homes for a complicated basement project that required significant structural, electrical, and plumbing work. Their quote was competitively priced, the work was completed on time and within budget. Doug Stein was on site every day and couldn’t have been more committed to the project and meeting our expectations. We now have a beautiful basement space that is seamlessly integrated with the rest of our house. We highly recommend Wexford and would not hesitate to use them again
Doug Stein is the type of contractor that brings a very welcome sense of confidence to any project. It’s not just his own confidence on how all things should be done well and done thoroughly, but the confidence he can provide the project architect and the clients that there will be very little to worry about in the project process in terms of quality and schedule. The precision and care extends all the way down to the level of the most orderly construction site you will ever find. The end product of his work reflects a craftsmanship and care that is very hard to find in the field today.
Dear Doug, I want to extend my congratulation to you on the perfectly executed demolition of 7318 Delfield Street today. Wow! Wexford homes knows how to do this right! Not one complaint from the neighbors- in fact, the demolition was an event for intrigued neighbors to gather ’round the activities, and the perfect execution just made it all the more interesting for the watchful crowd. One interested observer likened the activities of the demolition equipment to a ballet (if you can imagine guiding that huge piece of equipment through ballet exercises! ); that suggests how impressed the onlookers were as they watched the demolition of the house. There were no noise complaints, no dust complaints, no damage complaints. That amounts to nothing but compliments in my book and kudos for Wexford Homes! As if that wasn’t enough, I noticed as I checked in on the site about mid-morning, that “someone” was sweeping up dirt debris in Delfield Street. As I walked past the hardworking man, I thanked him for his clean-up effort. I was so impressed to hear that he was an employee of Bartley Corp., the concrete contractor and that this is standard protocol—cleaning the street up behind the delivery of their equipment. Another wow. I will encourage all future contractors in Martin’s Additions to adhere to the same protocol.
Doug’s attention to detail was amazing! It’s easy to tell when talking with him, that the homes he builds are personal- it’s not just a home, it’s a work of art. Doug’s finished product is truly a masterpiece and second-to-none. The layout of the home is very inviting and perfect for entertaining, as well as day-to-day family living. Doug’s follow-up and availability to answer any questions that we may have had, during the sale, and even after the sale, reflects his passion for building quality homes. We understood every detail of our home, from top to bottom, by the time we purchased it. Doug’s personal integrity and building integrity is reflected in his craftsmanship. We would not hesitate to use Wexford Homes again for any building need that we may have and could not be happier with our new home!
We are so happy with our home built by Wexford Homes. As soon as we walked through the front door we knew this was the home for our family. Our home is built of quality and character thanks to Doug’s meticulous efforts. Attention to detail and Doug’s passion for creating a warm home are just two of the reasons we fell in love with the house. Working with a builder as nice, honest, and conscientious as Doug made the process very easy for us. Even after closing on our home Wexford Homes continues to provide excellent follow-up and commitment beyond comparison. Working with the staff of Wexford Homes was a very pleasant experience. Thank you, Wexford Homes, for building such a beautiful house we can call home.
My husband and I have lived in 3 new homes over the last 12 years, and I can honestly say that our home built by Wexford was the best–best experience, best home, best company. The experience was easy: none of the typical delays that you often hear of with new home construction. Prompt attention was always given to any questions/requests that we had. The home itself was incredible. The level of finishes, attention to detail, and solid craftsmanship made this home “the talk of the town.” The people at Wexford were just as exceptional as the home they built. Doug has an incredible wealth of knowledge about each home he builds and does an incredibly detailed walk through. He makes sure you understand the “guts” of your home before closing. His passion for building is evident as you walk through a home with him. Although we have since relocated to a different state, I still maintain contact with Doug. He is both a great builder and great person. Those qualities have made Wexford the successful company that it is. I would gladly have another home built by Wexford.
We bought a home from Wexford when we were transferred to Virginia. We worked with Doug Stein very closely through the completion of the home. The process was easy and enjoyable-Doug was open to changes we wanted to make as well as offering idea’s of his own. The quality of the finished product was outstanding! We have built three homes in the past, yet the ease, quality and timelines of Doug Stein and his team was the finest we have ever worked with. In addition, the follow up after we moved in was outstanding. Doug kept in contact with us on a regular basis to ensure that we were happy with the home. We continue to stay in contact with Doug even though we have moved back to the West coast. We are about to begin to build a vacation home in Hawaii and our only regret is that Doug and Wexford Homes don’t have an office on the Hawaiian islands!
Incredible attention to detail and practically flawless construction are two of the strengths that come to mind when I think of Wexford. Doug Stein really listened to us throughout the process. We felt we were given the attention we deserved not only by the Wexford Staff but by their highly experienced suppliers as well. The job site was always clean and well maintained and the house was delivered on time. I really feel like my home is one in a million.
As a full time real estate agent for over 20 years, I have done many transactions with many builders. Wexford Homes is committed to master crafting a home that is unique to the client’s specific needs and desires. Their personalized attention throughout the design and construction process far exceeds any other builder I have worked with. Wexford Homes delivers a home of quality craftsmanship that is synonymous to excellence. Their dedication to customer service after the sale is unsurpassed.
Blue Ridge Masonry has been proud to be associated with Wexford for nearly 15 years. Wexford’s dedication and commitment to quality construction and homeowner satisfaction are the hallmark of their success. Our shared values of uncompromised quality and service have made a relationship that will continue for many years to come.
I worked with Wexford for many years in the Northern Virginia market providing carpentry services which included, framing, exterior cornice, interior trim and finish hardware. The projects included custom homes, designed specifically for individual customers, and larger scale communities developed and marketed by Wexford. With all the projects, I have been impressed by the professionalism displayed by the Wexford staff. They were easy to work with, responsive to both the homeowners and contractors working on their projects, and forthright in addressing any issues as they arose during construction of the projects. They have enjoyed excellent working relationships with the various material suppliers and vendors. If they hadn’t moved South, we’d still be working together. The island has gained a great asset in Doug Stein and Wexford Homes.
For the past ten years, Wexford Homes has been considered one of the elite commercial clients of United Bank. Over that period, United Bank provided Wexford with a revolving acquisition, development and construction credit facility in excess of $7 million, which allowed Wexford to develop and construct custom home communities throughout the Metro Washington DC market area. As Wexford’s commercial account representative, it was a pleasure dealing with such sophisticated and professional operators. Additionally, all of the Bank’s third party consultants provided nothing but positive feedback on the quality of Wexford’s product and the accuracy of their requests. The “Wexford Home” has always been regarded as one of the finest in the market area, and United Bank has valued the partnership with such an outstanding business client.
My husband and I fell in love with our Wexford Home from the moment we walked in the door. There are many, many things that have impressed us about our house, from the quality of the foundation down to every last detail in the finish. Moreover, as our duly admiring home inspector noted, Wexford Homes invested in quality systems that “don’t sell houses.” We knew we were purchasing a great home. What has been perhaps the best part of the entire experience of purchasing a new home, however, has been the personal attention and conscientiousness of Doug Stein. Doug has been with us every step of the way since we contracted to purchase the home, and has gone out of his way to ensure that the home is perfect. As example, Doug called to ensure we were prepared for Hurricane Sandy this past weekend — almost four months after we moved into our home. This is yet another example of Doug going the extra mile for us even when he doesn’t have to. We could not have asked for a more professional and pleasant experience, and we could not recommend Doug and Wexford Homes more highly to anyone considering purchasing a new home. We are absolutely confident, based on our experience that Doug is committed to a quality product and great relationships with his clients.
The construction of 7318 Delfield Street has been a wonderful experience for us from the moment we first met Doug Stein and Chris Kuster until long after we received our use and occupancy certificate. Wexford Homes builds great quality at a fair price while staying on schedule. Doug provided frank and honest responses to every question we asked from the first time we met with him. The thing that really set Doug apart from every other contractor was the care he has for his work and the results he delivers to clients. His desire to follow best building practices to produce a high quality end result is obvious. Even during our design process Doug gave us very solid budgets. Drawing from his vast experience, he was able to quickly study our plans and not only help us design a more cost effective structure but also a more livable home. During the detailed bidding process for our project, we explored different options with Doug how we will arrive to a final price and contract. We decided to proceed using a fixed fee and overhead for Doug and Chris with open bidding for each item. Doug always weighed other factors including workmanship and professionalism when selecting subcontractors. He does not simply select the lowest bidder or push a subcontractor to unjustly lower a number. Throughout the bidding process Doug ensured that we selected the right people for our project to achieve the best possible quality. His attention to detail and his communication with the various bidders during bidding secured a number and a person responsible for every single item required to fully build the house. Doug consistently advocated for a lower price but knew the limits of negotiation and when a subcontractor simply felt pushed around. Wexford Homes organized the bidding process so well and clearly that we felt very confident to start construction of the new home. Doug’s positive, responsive and can do attitude were the key to getting the project off to a great start. All of the inspectors, utility companies and local government officials were pleased with Doug’s attitude and management of the project and never impeded progress. Our neighbors were also impressed with Doug’s efficiency. As is inevitable with such a project, complaints occasionally arose. Doug always stayed calm and responded with respect and level headedness that kept everyone informed and satisfied. Doug was also always respectful to every person that worked on the project from consultants, to highly skilled specialists, to unskilled labors. He takes everyone’s concerns seriously and listens actively. Doug’s thorough knowledge of construction combined with his polished communication skills puts everyone working on the project at ease, so they treat him with respect, too. Every contractor knows that when Doug schedules them, the project is ready for them and that when they do quality work they will get paid fast. Doug also has an incredible amount of experience with homeowners and he knows when he has to receive final selections from the homeowner for items like wood flooring, plumbing fixtures and so on. He led us through the selection process by letting us know what was urgent but without giving us any feeling of pressure. In the meantime Chris Kuster kept all invoices, product selections and other paperwork extremely well organized. This well-organized process avoided any confusion between Wexford Homes and us. Due to the above described personality trades and all required technical and management skills, the existing home on our property was demolished and a new 5,000 square feet home was built within 6 months from demolition to final completion. Originally we were nervous about a long punchlist of unfinished items at the end of the project. However it turned out to be a five item list. The items were extremely minor and we think many homeowners would not even put these items on. Doug followed up with the responsible parties and things got quickly resolved. We have not had any problems with the house since we paid Doug in full two months ago. He is always available when we have a question about the mechanical system and has been following up with us to make sure everything works properly. We can only say that from start to end Wexford Homes has been a wonderful experience.
